Happy New Year from Blue Reef!

A very happy new year from the Blue Reef Aquarium Hastings Team! We hope you’ve coped with everything that 2020 has thrown at you and wish you a warm and wonderful 2021 – you deserve it!

The thousands of animals at Blue Reef are, of course, blissfully happy and oblivious to everything that’s been happening on the outside world; and so our hard-working zoo team have been working round the clock as per usual to provide them all with the first-class care and attention they deserve.  Here’s our monthly round-up of December 2020 at  the Aquarium…

A NEW HOME FOR JOHN AND YOKO

It’s amazing how fast they grow up…. John & Yoko, our two Epaulette sharks have been with us for just over a year now and have been growing at a rate of knots – you may have spotted them as tiny pups in the smaller tanks near the Ray tank. They now have new neighbours, sharing a tank with Spanish Hogfish, Paddlefin Wrasse and Yellow Tangs among others – that’s a pretty diverse neighbourhood! Epaulette sharks can grow up to 2 feet long so they will eventually be released into the Ocean tank when they’re big enough, where 133,000 litres of saltwater awaits them…

DID YOU KNOW?

Epaullette Sharks live in shallow rock pools. In order to nagivate this habitat they have evolved to ‘walk’ using their pectoral and pelvic fins. They can even survive out of the water for up to an hour!

WE ARE RECRUITING!

One day you could be at the Blue Reef Café, the next you could be 70m underground at the Smugglers Adventure Caves or perched high above the town at Hastings Castle. We’re looking for energetic and enthusiastic Visitor Service Assistants to join our seasonal front-of-house team. The VSA role is an exciting and challenging role and is all about delivering first-class customer service. If this sounds like you, you can read more about the role and apply at… INSERT WEBLINK
