June Beach Clean

Hastings Blue Reef Aquarium is once again inviting local people to take part in a beach clean this weekend.
Staff from the Rock-a-Nore Road wildlife attraction have organised the event for 10am on Saturday, June 11th on the stretch of beach beside the aquarium.
The last event, back in April, proved so popular they are hoping for a record number of volunteers this time around which will enable them to clean a larger section of the beach.
Volunteers will be issued with collecting bin bags, a pair of gloves and a reporting form to record their finds.
“We were absolutely delighted with the response to our appeal last time which attracted a huge range of volunteers; including young families,” said Blue Reef’s Leanna Lawson.
“With summer doing its best to arrive we’re hoping this month’s clean will be the biggest and most extensive ever.
“Hastings Council has once again kindly agreed to provide us with a selection of litter picking tools and now we need some energetic volunteers to help us out.
“The plan is to meet at the aquarium at 9.30am on the day so everyone can be registered and issued with cleaning items, datasheets and beach clean booklets.
“All the rubbish that we collect will then be brought back to the aquarium where it will be separated out and individually itemised.
“After that we will recycle as much of it as we possibly can while the rest will be disposed of safely” she added.
Anyone under the age of 18 who wants to take part will need to be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers are asked to contact Blue Reef to confirm their attendance prior to the event. They should also wear sensible footwear and clothing and bring sunscreen if the weather is hot.
